Melasma: Why It Keeps Coming Back & What Actually Works

Melasma: Why It Keeps Coming Back & What Actually Works

Melasma is one of the most frustrating pigmentary conditions because it tends to relapse โ€” especially in Indian skin. The myth that a single peel or laser will 'cure' it leads to disappointment and, sometimes, worse pigmentation.

A real melasma plan has four pillars: broad-spectrum sunscreen reapplied through the day, topical depigmenting actives like tranexamic acid and azelaic acid, oral therapy when indicated, and very conservative pigmentary lasers (such as low-fluence Q-switched) used only by an experienced hand.

Results take 3-6 months. The win is fewer flare-ups, lighter background pigmentation, and skin that looks healthier overall.
